Hypnotherapy for Sports Performance
Many sports people, both professional and amateur, have been using sports psychology and hypnotherapy in understanding the power of the mind in relation to performance.
There are many reason that clients can come to me for support. It maybe that they get ‘the fear’ before an event, it maybe to improve skills or focus,. It may be to quash any limiting beliefs that they have about themselves in relation to their levels of success that they feel that they can achieve.
The great thing about using hypnotherapy, is that is known as the rehearsal room of the mind, where we can practice, train and enhance our performance. When we imagine performing well in our minds, the same areas of the brain light up as if we are actually doing that action or activity. This is why hypnosis is such a powerful tool to enhance performance.
I was trained in this area by David Newton, personal hypnotherapist to Glenn Catley, the world championship boxer. Fortunately, I have also had the pleasure of meeting Glenn and understanding how they secured his win.
How we do it:
- understand how the mind works relating to the support you require.
- use positive visualisations so that you can ‘rehearse your perfect performance in your mind
- reduce any underlying anxiety
- work on manipulating any ‘faulty’ templates that may be have be created over time
What do you know about my sport?
As your therapist I don’t need to be an expert in your particular field, as you are. Generally people who work with me know exactly what they want to achieve, or what things they want to leave behind. I need to ask the right questions and to enable you to find ways to control your thoughts, actions and behaviours.
Over the years, I have worked with clients who are professionals at golf, trampoline, table tennis, basketball, swimming, and athletics as examples. I also work with those who just enjoy their sport and want to be the very best at it.
