How are you – no really, how ARE you? Lockdown has been a challenging time for many of us, and although it may have been great to start with, some people are finding that as time goes on, it is getting harder and harder. Others will have gone the other way and hated it at first, but now getting used to the new way of living at present.
Although at the first stages of lockdown I had postponements as people wanted face to face therapy, which I couldn’t offer at the time, now these, and many more, are finding the benefits of using online therapy.
I have been offering it as a service for years, and have only used it on a few clients a handful of times a year, as people tended to want to work with a therapist who is local to them.
What has lockdown taught us as prospective hypnotherapy clients?
We can pick any therapist from anywhere! We are not tied to have shop locally, we can in fact see the therapist we want to see wherever they are in the country (or internationally in fact).
What does this mean to the client?
More Choice!
How do I pick a therapist?
- Pick a therapist who has a good set of qualifications behind them.
- See how long they have been practicing and what their clients say about them.
- Often my past clients will recommend friends and family, so see if anyone you know could guide you towards someone to ‘google’.
- Enjoy reading their profiles, and see if they match up well with want you would want in a therapist, or sometimes just someone who you think you easily relate to, or would be able to talk to.
- Give them a call to discuss what you’d like help with BEFORE agreeing to work with them.
- Book a consultation – this isn’t committing you to therapy! The consultation is about you both getting to know each other, understanding how you have coped with things in the past that may have influenced where you are now, and how you can work towards achieving the goal that you want. You should leave the consultation with clear expectations of what you need to commit to, as well as what the therapist will commit to. You feel inspired and positive and raring to go!
There is no doubt that online therapy can work just as well as face-to-face for most people, as long as you have somewhere quiet you can escape for an hour. This works especially well with those suffering from stress, anxiety and/or depression.

Often we have visitors appear on screen from furry friends at the clients end, but they soon seem to settle down and relax as much as the client! Some people have even used their cars as a safe haven, and parked somewhere quiet and propped me up on the dashboard!
Where there is a will there is a way!
